You are, if your teeth and gums are healthy and there is enough enamel left to bond to. These shells bond to enamel rather than dentin, so a tooth that has been heavily drilled or worn down will not hold one reliably. Active decay and gum disease get treated first, every time. What Happens During the Veneer Procedure?
Two appointments, usually about three weeks apart.
- Impression. We shape the enamel lightly, then take a precise mold of your teeth with dental alginate so the lab has an exact record of your bite.
- Customization. Your shells are milled and layered at the lab to the shade, translucency, and contour we chose together. This is where the artistry happens.
- Temporary set. You wear temporaries while the lab works, so you never walk around with prepared teeth showing.
At the second visit we fit each shell, check it against your bite and your face, adjust the edges, and bond it in place. You leave with the finished result that day.
IMPRESSION
To begin the process, your dentist will take a mold of your teeth so that custom-made veneers can be created to fit your mouth exactly. Your dentist takes an impression of your teeth using a special putty-like material called dental alginate. This impression is then sent to a dental lab where they will use it as a reference to craft your veneers. Once complete, the veneers are sent back to the dentist and they’ll be ready to be placed in your mouth.
CUSTOMIZATION
After getting a mold of your teeth, the dentist will work with you to select the right size and shape of the veneers to best suit your smile. Once the perfect fit is achieved, the veneers are sent to a dental lab where they are custom-crafted and shaded to match your existing teeth color. The customization process helps to ensure that the veneers look natural and blend in seamlessly with your teeth for a beautiful, confident smile.
TEMPORARY SET
After the impression, customization and fabrication of your veneers is complete, the dentist will then place a temporary set of veneers in your mouth. This allows you to test out the fit and look of the veneers before they’re permanently bonded in place. The temporary set can be removed at any time so that adjustments can be made if necessary. Once you’re happy with the look of the veneers, they can then be permanently bonded to your teeth giving you the perfect smile you’ve always wanted.
